CENTCOM said that an ISIS-K planner was the target and that the strike was successful.
Less than 48 hours after the attack on the Kabul airport, U.S. forces conducted a surgical drone airstrike on an Islamic State member in Nangahar. The strike was in response to the attack that killed 169 Afghans and 13 U.S. military personnel and was carried out against a vehicle traveling near the border of Pakistan.
U.S. Central Command Spokesman Captain Bill Urban “U.S. military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner.” He added, “The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties.”
U.S. officials believed the targeted person was involved in the process of out future attacks.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to be at work through the president and Department of Defense officials as they work on counter-terrorism efforts.
- For safety for the many pilots and aircrews flying the evacuation missions as the drawdown toward the August 31 deadline continues.
- For the many military men and women on the ground working to provide support for the evacuation of the Kabul airport.
